About Our Projects
Feeding scheme
Our branch delivers fresh food 3 days per week to the aged and vulnerable in our community. Our two main initiatives are in Diepsloot and Riversidebend housing project where we focus on ensuring a balanced nutritious meal for the elderly and render care services to those in need.
Soup kitchen
In 2025 we added two groups of homeless people to our feeding project, one in Rivonia where we feed approximately 100 people and one in Kyalami of about 60 people. Many of these are job seekers waiting and hoping to be hired with no means to get a warm hearty meal. This feeding is done from our van.
Food parcel program
Although our focus is supplying cooked meals to our recipients, the current economic climate has seen a marked increase in people requesting food aid as they struggle to keep a roof overhead. These are those who can cook but have no food and hence this initiative has become an official project.
Special Projects
Another large homeless group were identified in the Cresta area, where government has run several health programs and community interventions. Sandton Meals on Wheels has partnered with Government to ensure that these vulnerable individuals receive a balanced meal in order to make their medication more effective.
You can Empower us to Impact Our Community …
Can we count on your help?
Many South Africans are struggling in our current economy as unemployment rises, businesses close and skills demand changes. People of all races and walks of life are feeling the pinch. Some go to bed hungry so that others in their household could have a few morsels. Many do not receive the promised aid and so the plight of the hungry increases and at Meals on Wheels has felt that increased need in tangible ways. A father calling in after months of unemployment pleading for baby formula, a grandmother pleading for food for her children and children, children with elderly parents that are stranded, these are some of the needs we meet. The need is great and we wish we could do more. Please help us do more and make a difference to more people in need.
Happening Now
We are hoping to expand specifically in the Riverside Bend areas as the demand has increased.
We will also be hosting our recipients’ year end Christmas lunch early in December and ask our donors to keep this in mind. Please donate towards helping us add a little something special to this occasion.
